Opera Max Beta - Compress Maximun Data

By on Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Opera has announced Opera Max, a free and easy-to-use app that can save you data on your limited data plan by compressing video, images and text used by your device. This means that you can use your favorite apps, browse your favorite sites and use less data while doing both.

Opera's mobile browsers are quite popular because of their ability to compress data and hence save money on data costs. But this was a few years back when most of our data usage came from browser itself. Opera did a good job then saving on data costs. This has however, become less and less useful as nowadays our usage pattern contains not just browser but all kinds of apps - facebook, instragram, you tube which use maximum data. Opera Max can compress most of the data going through the device from almost all the apps.

How does Opera Max work?

Opera Max uses a Virtual Private Network, or VPN, to measure all the data usage on your phone. Once Opera Max savings is enabled, all data requests are sent through our compression servers that optimize video, images, and websites to use less data. We only measure how much data you use and how much data you’ve saved.

US Android users - Can download it for beta testing

The limited beta will available through the Opera Google+ Community page. During the beta period, the app will be completely free. To get started, follow these steps on your computer:

Note: You need a Google+ account to join our group. You can create one here if you don’t have one yet.

While the company hasn't specified how many beta testers are allowed, it does say that room is limited, so if you are a big data gulper, you can enroll into beta program.
