By on Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Still using XP? Xp is one of the most used Operating systems and is still used my many people. Now Microsoft announced some great visual features with Vista and Windows 7 which were not introduced for XP. However, you can still use most of them either by using 3rd party Software or by employing certain hacks. So here is the hack for Viewing thumbnails of bigger size in XP.

Registry Hack

While doing any registry hack, you should first make a backup of your Registry. You can visit my another post on "How to Backup and Restore System Registry

Also, Administrator Credentials are required for this hack.Step by Step process of increasing Thumbnail Size in XP is provided below:

Step 1: Go to Run . Click Start, and then click Run. Or else, Just type Windows + R keys together to bring the Run dialog box.

Step 2:  In the Open Dialog box, type regedit.exe, and then click OK

Step 3: Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer"

Step 4: Now look for the DWORD value "ThumbnailSize".
- If you find the DWORD value, move to Step 5.  If you couldn't  find the 'ThumbnailSize', don't worry. We'll create one. Right click on the right-pan "New > DWORD value > name it as "ThumbnailSize"(without Spacess between the name).

Step 5: Now double click on "ThumbnailSize" now enter the "value data" of your own. You can enter any value you wish. Just remember, if you choose the base as Decimal then the min value is 32 and max is 256, If you use Hexadecimal the min is 20 and max is 100.

Step 6: Enjoy the big size Thumbnails. If your system is becoming slow, you can reduce the thumbnail size.
