Most of our times in office is spend on Viewing various documents and selecting and copying various elements from them. There is a joke going around in my office which says that only thing people do in office in Ctrl+ C and Ctrl + V! Now this might be an exaggeration by any standards, but this Post gives you incredible keyboard tricks for selecting, copying and Pasting data which will greatly increase your productivity. Interested! Read On.

Simple Tricks

Ok.Here, are the basics. I know almost everyone knows this, but nevertheless

  • Ctrl+X:Cut
  • Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert:Copy the highlighted text or selected item.
  • Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert:Paste the text or object that's in the clipboard.
  • Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y: Undo any change. For example, if you cut text, pressing this will undo it. This can also often be pressed multiple times to undo multiple changes. Pressing Ctrl + Y would redo the undo.
  • Ctrl + Home or Ctrl + End: Move the cursor to the beginning or end of a document.
  • CTRL+B: Bold
  • CTRL+U: Underline
  • CTRL+I: Italic
  • Ctrl+A: Select entire Page

Ok. Thats It!The Most elementary shortcuts are over. Now Here is list of some very useful shortcuts that you might not have heard of.

 Highlight Entire Paragraph for Copy/Paste

You can easily do with your mouse wheel but imagine a huge paragraph. It can be easily achieved by using Shift key. Just click the start point of the paragraph you want to select, then hold the SHIFT key, while you click at the end point of what you want to select. To select text, left-click first character, then hold [SHIFT] key and select last character. This highlights the whole text and now can be copied easily using CTRL+C or Mouse

If you are a little more advanced, you probably know that you can also select a random series of items in a folder by holding down the [CTRL] key as you select the items. Again, the same can be done when you want to select multiple random chunks of text in a document.

First Click on Starting Point and Then on Ending Point

Just hold onto the [CTRL] key as you go and highlight whatever you want to select.

This will not work everywhere, but it does work very nicely in Office documents and Web Pages

Select Pieces/Snippets of Text From Paragraph

To select pieces of text, hold [CTRL] key as you make your selection using the left mouse button.

Select Text Vertically

Now here is a very advanced text selection trick. This one allows you to select text vertically. As the previous trick, this will not work everywhere, but does work inside word. Simply press the [ALT] key and select text using the left mouse button.

Thats it Folks. And I leave you with a favorite shortcut of Mine - WINDOWS KEY + D - Press it to instantly bring Desktop from anyhwere. Cool?
